Maldives Airports Company (MACL), the leading airport operator in the Maldives, has launched a safety, security, and health campaign called “Binaaru” at Velana International Airport (VIA).
Binaaru campaign was officiated by Minister of Defence Uza. Mariya Ahmed Didi at a special event which was attended by Mr. Hussain Jaleel, CEO of Civil Aviation Authority, Mr. Mahjoob Shujau, the Managing Director and CEO of MACL, Mr. Ibrahim Thoha, the Deputy Managing Director of MACL, senior management of MACL and senior officials from airport stakeholders.
As part of the campaign, MACL aims to enforce the occupational health and safety law within the workforce at VIA, setting an example for other state-owned enterprises in the country. Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Mariya Didi commended the huge effort at VIA by the MACL team along with other airport stakeholders during the COVID-19 pandemic. The minister also highlighted the immense work done by MACL to ensure and maintain the safety of the airport.
The Managing Director and CEO of MACL, Mahjoob Shujau, mentioned that with the new infrastructure development at VIA, the company is giving a high priority in developing safety and security features in accordance with international regulatory bodies such as IATA and ICAO. He further emphasized that MACL is investing in new technologies to minimize accidents at working environment, excess points, and increase surveillance at VIA.
Major activities and events of the “Binaaru” campaign will run from March 4 to March 9. To kick off the campaign, a safety run was held at Hulhumale’ Central Park on 4th March. Other activities planned throughout the campaign include staff health screening, awareness sessions, airport tours for school students, online quizzes to create awareness on safety and security, also Airport cleaning and vector control events.
