Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to Make State Visit to Maldives
- Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim will make a State Visit to the Maldives from 14 to 15 September 2026, his first since taking office in 2022.
- Anwar and President Muizzu will hold talks on bilateral and multilateral cooperation and witness the exchange of Memoranda of Understanding.
- The visit reciprocates Muizzu's April 2025 trip to Malaysia and marks 58 years of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim will undertake a State Visit to the Maldives from 14 to 15 September 2026, marking his first visit to the country since assuming office in November 2022.
The visit follows President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s Official Visit to Malaysia from 27 to 30 April 2025. President Muizzu extended the invitation to Prime Minister Anwar during that visit.
Prime Minister Anwar will meet President Muizzu and hold official talks on bilateral and multilateral cooperation. The discussions will also consider new areas of partnership between the Maldives and Malaysia.
The two leaders will witness the exchange of Memoranda of Understanding in selected areas of bilateral cooperation.
Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef, Speaker of the People’s Majlis Abdul Raheem Abdulla, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Iruthisham Adam will also pay courtesy calls on the Malaysian Prime Minister during his stay.
The visit comes amid 58 years of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Malaysia, supported by development cooperation, high-level exchanges, and longstanding people-to-people ties.
