Maldives and Korea Discuss Expansion of Relations Between the Two Countries

Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid, met with the Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea and Ambassador at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, Han Dongman.

The Special Envoy visited the Maldives from 13 – 14 November 2022.

During the meeting held this morning, the Minister Shahid welcomed the Special Envoy to the Maldives and noted that this visit would serve to further strengthen the bilateral relations between the Maldives and the Republic of Korea, as 2022 marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Minister Shahid expressed his appreciation for the generous contributions of the Government of the Republic of Korea, including through agencies such as the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), to the development of the Maldives. He also expressed his eagerness to see the expansion of relations between the two countries in the fields of economic and technical cooperation.

Minister Shahid was accompanied by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel, Additional Secretary (Asia, Middle East, and Africa Department) Amin Javed Faizal, Joint Secretary (Multilateral Department) Mariyam Midhfa Naeem, and Assistant Director (Multilateral Department) Fathimath Zeyna Abdulla Saeed.

The Special Envoy was accompanied by the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Maldives, Woonjin Jeong, and other senior officials. During the visit, the Special Envoy also called on the Speaker of the People’s Majlis President Mohamed Nasheed, Minister for Economic Development Uz. Fayyaz Ismail, and the Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom.
