President Muizzu is undertaking a three-day State Visit to Pakistan from 20 to 22 October 2026, following an official invitation from Pakistani Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.
According to the President’s Office, the visit represents a major diplomatic milestone, marking the first high-level presidential visit between the two South Asian nations in a decade. The visit coincides with the 60th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Pakistan, which the two countries formally opened on 26 July 1966.
During his stay, President Muizzu will hold bilateral discussions with Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and other senior government representatives.
Official talks between President Muizzu and Prime Minister Sharif will focus on deepening bilateral cooperation across key sectors. Following these discussions, both leaders will oversee the signing and exchange of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) designed to strengthen practical collaboration between the two states.
First Lady Sajidha Mohamed, along with a delegation of Cabinet Ministers and senior government officials, will accompany the President throughout the official state tour.
The President’s Office emphasises that the trip aligns with the administration’s “Maldives First” foreign policy. The policy prioritises regional partnerships, active international engagement, and close ties with neighbouring countries to foster economic development and diplomatic stability.
