Maldives and UAE Discuss Renewable Energy, Trade, and Tourism Collaboration

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives, Dr. Abdulla Khaleel, met with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to discuss key aspects of the Maldives-UAE relationship.

During the meeting, Minister Dr. Khaleel conveyed greetings from President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the UAE, and expressed gratitude for the UAE’s longstanding support for the Maldives’ development.

The discussions highlighted the Maldives’ fiscal reform agenda and key development initiatives, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to advancing cooperation in renewable energy, fisheries, trade, tourism, and connectivity. The prospect of exploring new avenues for collaboration was also emphasised.

Dr. Khaleel expressed appreciation for the UAE’s contributions to the Maldives, particularly through the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD), which has supported major projects, including the expansion of Velana International Airport.

His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan reiterated the UAE’s commitment to strengthening the historic partnership with the Maldives and advancing shared aspirations between the two nations.

The meeting reflects the growing ties between the Maldives and the UAE as both countries continue to work closely on shared priorities for mutual progress.
