Maldives Calls for Regional Dialogue at Antalya Diplomacy Forum

Foreign Minister Dr. Abdulla Khaleel took part in the Fourth Antalya Diplomacy Forum this week, participating in a high-level panel discussion focused on the evolving geostrategic dynamics of the Asia-Pacific region. The forum, held in Türkiye from 11–13 April, brought together global policymakers and experts under the theme “Reclaiming Diplomacy in a Fragmented World.”

At the panel, Dr. Khaleel addressed major developments shaping the region and highlighted how issues such as climate change carry significant implications for Small Island Developing States. He emphasised the importance of diplomacy in responding to emerging global threats and pointed to the role of regional and international cooperation in promoting long-term stability.

The Minister also drew attention to the Maldives’ geographic position, stressing its strategic relevance in the wider Indo-Pacific context and noting the interlinkage between national security and regional stability.

His participation in the forum was at the invitation of Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. In addition to the panel session, Dr. Khaleel held meetings with counterparts from various countries, reaffirming the Maldives’ foreign policy focus on constructive dialogue and multilateral engagement.

The forum was hosted in collaboration with the Sasakawa Peace Foundation of Japan and included leading voices from across the region, further underscoring the Maldives’ continued presence in global discussions on diplomacy and regional affairs.
