Maldives Expecting a Tourist Arrival Rate of 1.6 Million in 2022

During the presidential address at the Inaugural Session of the Parliament, President Ibrahim Solih emphasized on the accomplishments of the Tourism Industry during last year.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) estimate Maldives to be among the top 5 economies globally expected to grow the most in 2022. Based on all this, the government is forecasting a 12 percent increase in Maldivian GDP in 2022 and a total of 1.6 million tourists visiting this year.

The first month of 2022 has recorded over 122,575 tourists indicating a 43.1 percent increase in arrival rate compared to 2021. The statistics show a positive growth after the re-opening of the boarders and Maldives is among the top countries to successfully resume tourism after the COVID-19 outbreak.

This year marks the 50th Anniversary of Maldives tourism industry and throughout the year Maldives will be celebrating the Golden Jubilee of tourism. As of now, Maldives has nearly 200 resorts, around 10 of which opened in 2021 and further 12 are scheduled to open in 2022. Maldives is seeing a new drive for sustainability and the upcoming years are expected to be successful for the tourism industry after the biggest downfall due to pandemic.
