Minister of Foreign Affairs Iruthisham Adam has travelled to New Delhi on her first official overseas visit since assuming office, signalling continued diplomatic engagement between the Maldives and India.
The visit is being undertaken at the invitation of India’s Minister of External Affairs, Dr S. Jaishankar. During the trip, Minister Iruthisham is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with Dr Jaishankar, where the two ministers are expected to review cooperation between the Maldives and India across bilateral and multilateral areas.
The meeting will also provide an opportunity for both sides to discuss key issues of mutual interest, as the two countries continue to manage a relationship shaped by close geographic, economic and regional ties.
The visit comes at a time when Maldives-India relations remain central to the Maldives’ foreign policy, particularly in areas such as development cooperation, regional security, trade, connectivity and people-to-people links.
