Maldives Immigration Addresses High Demand with Expedited Passport Issuance

Maldives Immigration has reported a surge in passport issuances, with 2,623 passports processed in the past two weeks, coinciding with the December school holidays.

In response to the increased demand for passport services, the Immigration Department announced its efforts to utilise resources to optimally cater to the public’s needs.

The notable rise in passport issuances follows key measures implemented by Immigration on December 3rd. Specifically, the speed of sending passports to regional offices in cities doubled. Importantly, owners collecting electronic, non-electric, or emergency passports are no longer required to present their ID cards.

Moreover, parents collecting passports for children under 18 must only provide a picture of their ID card. These adjustments aim to streamline the passport application process and accommodate the surge in demand during the holiday period.
