The Maldives must build digital skills and improve tourism services while preserving the personal hospitality that distinguishes the destination, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu said in a message marking World Tourism Day 2026.

The President said digital technologies and artificial intelligence are changing how travellers discover destinations, plan trips and experience tourism. He said technology should complement the human touch at the centre of Maldivian hospitality. Continued innovation, collaboration and investment in people would help the Maldives remain competitive while protecting its natural environment and distinct identity, he added.

President Dr Muizzu also thanked those working across the tourism sector. He said tourism has contributed to national development and created opportunities across the islands, while connecting Maldivians with the millions of visitors the country has welcomed.

World Tourism Day 2026 is being observed under the theme “Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism”. In a separate post on X, the President reiterated the Maldives’ commitment to using digital opportunities to support a resilient and sustainable tourism sector.
