Maldives’ Non-Resident Ambassador Presents Credentials to King of Bhutan

Non-Resident Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives to the Kingdom of Bhutan, Shiuneen Rasheed, presented her Letters of Credential to His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck at a ceremony in Thimphu on Friday. 

Following the presentation, His Majesty extended a warm reception to Ambassador Rasheed and congratulated her on assuming duties as Non-Resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Maldives to Bhutan.

Ambassador Rasheed expressed her gratitude for the welcome and conveyed warm greetings and best wishes from President Dr Mohamed Muizzu to His Majesty and the people of Bhutan. She also reaffirmed the Maldives’ appreciation for the longstanding friendship and goodwill shared between the two nations.

During the audience, Ambassador Rasheed highlighted the Government’s commitment to deepening bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation in areas of mutual interest. She subsequently held calls with His Excellency Dasho Tshering Tobgay, Prime Minister of Bhutan, and His Excellency D.N. Dhungyel, Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, to discuss strengthening Maldives–Bhutan relations and promoting collaboration in shared priority areas. She is also scheduled to meet His Excellency Namgyal Dorji, Minister for Industry, Commerce and Employment.

Shiuneen Rasheed currently serves as High Commissioner of the Maldives to the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and will concurrently act as Non-Resident Ambassador to Bhutan, with residence in Dhaka. She was appointed to the post by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on 26 February 2025.

Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Bhutan were established on 13 July 1984. Both countries continue to maintain constructive engagement through bilateral, regional, and multilateral platforms, reflecting their shared commitment to peace, stability and sustainable development.
