Maldives Outlines Ambitious Renewable Energy Goals in Talks with Australia

Maldivian Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer met with Australia’s Ambassador for Climate Change, Kristin Tilley, for a discussion focused on addressing climate change challenges faced by Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

The meeting highlighted the Maldives’ commitment to ambitious environmental policies, including a transition to 33% renewable energy and a nationwide initiative to plant five million trees. Minister Zameer emphasized the critical importance of SIDS gaining greater access to climate financing from international financial institutions, a challenge he discussed in-depth with Ambassador Tilley.
