The Government of Maldives said on Sunday it is closely monitoring developments in the Republic of Yemen and has reaffirmed its continued support for the internationally recognised legitimate Government of Yemen.
In a statement, the Maldivian government welcomed the call by Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council to hold comprehensive talks aimed at negotiating a political solution through dialogue. It also welcomed the initiative by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to host a conference in Riyadh, reaffirming Saudi Arabia’s commitment to Yemen’s security and stability and to advancing a peaceful resolution through dialogue and diplomacy.
The statement was issued following an announcement by the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which called on southern Yemeni factions to participate in a forum in Riyadh to “formulate a comprehensive vision for fair solutions to the southern cause”.
The Maldives reiterated its support for efforts that promote dialogue, political engagement, and stability in Yemen, and expressed hope that the proposed talks would contribute to lasting peace and security in the country.
