Maldives Records 28% Rise in Exports, 15% Rise in Imports in March 2022

Maldives has recorded a significant rise in both exports and imports in March 2022, compared to the same period last year. 

As per the monthly statistics released by Maldives Custom Service, Maldives exported MVR 190 million in commodities during the month of March 2022. This is a 28 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

Major exported commodities include MVR 125 million in frozen skipjack or stripe-bellied bonito, MVR 26 million in skipjack tuna, and MVR 16 million in yellowfin tuna.

TOP EXPORTING COUNTRIES:

  • Thailand: MVR 115 million
  • UK: MVR 26 million
  • Germany: MVR 11 million
  • Mauritius: MVR 21 million
  • India: MVR 10 million

Meanwhile, Maldives has imported MVR 2.7 billion in commodities during the month of March 2022. This is a 15% increase compared to the same period last year.

TOP IMPORTING COUNTRIES:

  • Oman: MVR 637 million
  • UAE: MVR 628 million
  • India: MVR 543 million
  • China: MVR 365 million
  • Singapore: 305 million

Maldives customs service further recorded a revenue of MVR 319 million last month, which is a 21% increase from that of March 2021.
