Maldives has recorded a significant rise in both exports and imports in March 2022, compared to the same period last year.
As per the monthly statistics released by Maldives Custom Service, Maldives exported MVR 165 million in commodities during the month of April 2022. This is 36% increase compared to this period last year.
Major exported commodities include MVR 96 million in frozen skipjack or stripe-bellied bonito, MVR 27 million in skipjack tuna and MVR 26 million in yellowfin tuna.

Top Exporting Countries:
- Thailand: MVR 116 million
- Germany: MVR 13 million
- India: MVR 11 million
- Italy: MVR 7 million
- Bangladesh: MVR 7 million
Meanwhile, Maldives has imported MVR 4.7 billion in commodities during the month of April 2022. This is a 25% increase compared to the same period last year.
Top Importing Countries:
- Oman: MVR 1.4 billion
- India: MVR 665 million
- UAE: MVR 534 million
- Malaysia: MVR 363 million
- China: MVR 350 million
Maldives customs service further recorded a revenue of MVR 362 million, last month which is a 37% increase from the same period last year.
