Maldives Records 52% Decrease in Exports and 56% Increase in Imports in July 2022

Maldives has recorded an increase in imports coupled with a decrease in exports during July 2022, compared to the same period last year.

As per the monthly statistics released by Maldives Custom Service, Maldives exported MVR 78 million in commodities during the month of July 2022. This is a 52 percent decrease compared to the same period last year.

Major exported commodities include MVR 40 million in skipjack tuna and MVR 14 million in frozen skipjack or stripe-bellied bonito.

Top Exporting Countries:

  • Germany: MVR 21 million
  • UK: MVR 18 million
  • Mauritius: MVR 13 million
  • Bangladesh 5 million
  • India: MVR 4 million

Meanwhile, Maldives has imported MVR 4.3 billion in commodities during the month of July 2022. This is a 56 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

Top Importing Countries:

  • Oman: MVR 797 million
  • India: MVR 698 million
  • UAE: MVR 550 million
  • China: MVR 493 million
  • Singapore: MVR 343 million

Maldives Customs Service further recorded a revenue of MVR 316 million during July 2022, which is a 31 percent increase from the same period last year.
