Maldives Records 60% Increase in Exports and 78% Increase in Imports in June 2022

Maldives has recorded a significant rise in both exports and imports in June 2022, compared to the same period last year.

As per the monthly statistics released by Maldives Custom Service, Maldives exported MVR 247 million in commodities during the month of June 2022. This is a 60 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

Major exported commodities include MVR 140 million in frozen skipjack or stripe-bellied bonito, MVR 55 million in skipjack tuna and MVR 8 million in yellowfin tuna chunks.

Top Exporting Countries:

  • Thailand: MVR 148 million
  • Germany: MVR 25 million
  • UK: MVR 19 million
  • India: MVR 8 million
  • France: MVR 7 million

Meanwhile, Maldives has imported MVR 5.2 billion in commodities during the month of June 2022. This is a 78 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

Top Importing Countries:

  • Oman: MVR 1.1 billion
  • India: MVR 636 million
  • China: MVR 558 million
  • UAE: MVR 435 million
  • Malaysia: MVR 428 million

Maldives Customs Service further recorded a revenue of MVR 394 million during June 2022, which is a 44 percent increase from the same period last year.
