Maldives Records 7.3% Increase in Tourist Arrivals in 2025

Tourist arrivals in the Maldives have continued to rise in 2025, with the latest figures showing a 7.3% increase compared to the same period last year. According to data from the Ministry of Tourism, a total of 389,223 visitors were recorded as of 22nd February, reflecting steady growth in the country’s tourism sector.

Tourist Arrivals and Market Trends

January saw 214,863 tourist arrivals, marking an 11.7% increase compared to 2024. In February, up to the 22nd, the Maldives welcomed 174,360 visitors, a 2.3% increase from the same period last year.

China remains the top source market, contributing 56,150 tourists so far in 2025, followed by Russia (38,505) and the UK (37,827). Italy and Germany round out the top five markets, while India, France, the United States, Poland, and Switzerland also feature in the top ten.

Tourist Accommodation and Capacity

The Maldives currently has 1,144 operational tourist facilities offering a total of 61,837 beds. Resorts account for the largest share, with 68.9% of total arrivals choosing to stay at 177 resorts. Guesthouses continue to play a significant role, with nearly 26% of arrivals opting for guesthouse accommodation. The Maldives also has 15 hotels and 155 safari vessels contributing to the tourism sector.

The data highlights the continued diversification of the country’s tourism offerings, with guesthouses and safari vessels increasing their market share alongside the established resort sector.

The Maldivian tourism sector has maintained a strong trajectory, with positive trends in visitor numbers and accommodation capacity. With ongoing promotional efforts and growing international interest, the Maldives is on track to achieve another year of tourism growth in 2025.
