Visa Exemption for Maldivians Travelling to Azerbaijan Comes into Effect

Travel between the Maldives and Azerbaijan has become more accessible as a new visa exemption for ordinary passport holders comes into effect, expanding mobility for Maldivian nationals.

Maldivians travelling to Azerbaijan are now exempt from visa requirements for stays of up to 90 days, following the entry into force of a bilateral agreement signed between the two countries. The exemption applies to holders of ordinary passports and took effect on 29 April 2026.

The development builds on an earlier arrangement introduced in June 2025, which granted visa-free access to holders of diplomatic and official passports from both countries. With the latest agreement now in force, visa-free travel has been extended to all Maldivian nationals for short-term visits.

The exemption covers travel for tourism and general visits. However, individuals intending to remain in Azerbaijan beyond 90 days, or to engage in employment, education, or business activities, will still be required to obtain the appropriate visa prior to travel.

The move reflects broader efforts by the government to expand international travel access for Maldivian citizens through bilateral agreements.
