
Minister of Foreign Affairs Iruthisham Adam has concluded an official visit to Kunming, China, where discussions and engagements centred on regional cooperation, bilateral ties and opportunities for stronger links with Yunnan Province.
During the visit, Minister Iruthisham attended the opening ceremony of the seventh China-South Asia Cooperation Forum and delivered the keynote address. She outlined the Maldives’ commitment to working with China and other regional partners to expand cooperation, improve mutual understanding and support peace and stability in South Asia.
The Foreign Minister also attended the opening of the 10th China-South Asia Expo and toured the exhibition, including stalls operated by Maldivian vendors taking part in this year’s event.
As part of her official engagements, Minister Iruthisham met Governor of Yunnan Province Wang Yubo. Their discussions covered relations between the Maldives and Yunnan and the potential to expand cooperation in education, sports and people-to-people exchanges.
Minister Iruthisham also expressed appreciation for Yunnan Province’s continued support for the Maldives’ socio-economic development.
The visit included a trip to Yunnan University, where the Foreign Minister met Maldivian students studying in Kunming and Maldivian professionals based in the province. She praised the students’ academic progress and encouraged them to contribute to the Maldives’ future development.
