The Maldives is once again vying for nine prestigious accolades in the Indian Ocean’s category of the World Travel Awards (WTA). To boost public support and highlight the nation’s exceptional beauty, the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC/Visit Maldives) is organising a special Voting Event on the 28th of March 2024. The event will be held at Velaanaage ground floor from 9:15 AM to 1:15 PM.

Established in 1993, the World Travel Awards are widely regarded as the pinnacle of achievement within the travel and tourism sector. Their annual program recognizes excellence across various categories, with regional events leading up to a Grand Final. Winning a WTA award is a symbol of global recognition and establishes a high standard for hospitality. The Maldives has a history of success at the awards, having previously won titles such as Leading Destination, Leading Beach Destination, and Leading Tourist Board in the Indian Ocean region.

This year, the Maldives hopes to maintain its winning streak. The country recently held the title of WTA’s World’s Leading Destination for four consecutive years, with MMPRC named World’s Leading Tourist Board for two years running.

The Velaanaage ground floor Voting Event offers the Maldivian public and travel enthusiasts a chance to contribute to the nation’s potential success. Casting a vote not only supports the Maldives’ tourism industry but also enters participants into a raffle draw. The prize is a free stay sponsored by ITAW Travels, courtesy of the National Guesthouses Association of the Maldives.

MMPRC encourages public participation in this event as a way to demonstrate national pride and support for the Maldives’ continued prominence in the global tourism arena.
