The Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Mohamed Saeed, has departed for the United Kingdom to participate in the Commonwealth Trade and Investment Roundtable, a key event to foster economic collaboration among member states.
The ministry revealed in a statement today that the primary goal of Minister Saeed’s visit is to seek support from UK financial sector participants in establishing a dynamic financial market within the Maldives.
Discussions at the Roundtable will centre on the development of the Maldives International Financial Services Authority and Development Bank.
A major focus of the visit is to formalise working relationships with UK financial services firms. These partnerships aim to modernise the Maldives’ legal framework, enhance financial sector infrastructure, and develop a modern governance, strategy, and operations framework necessary for establishing International Financial Centres in the Maldives.
Throughout his visit, Minister Saeed is scheduled to meet with UK Government officials, members of the House of Lords, and representatives from the UK financial and professional services industry.
