The Maldives is setting its sights on a new tourism milestone, aiming to welcome 2.4 million visitors in 2025, surpassing the 2.2 million arrivals projected in the national budget. Minister of Tourism Ibrahim Faisal expressed optimism about the industry’s outlook, citing strong growth in key markets and targeted promotional efforts as driving factors.
“Major markets have performed remarkably well compared to previous years. Arrivals from China, Germany, and Russia have seen significant growth,” Minister Faisal stated, emphasising the government’s focus on expanding promotional activities into new markets to attract even more visitors.
This year, the Maldives is on track to set another record, with the 2 millionth tourist expected to arrive on December 26. Minister Faisal highlighted the rapid pace of arrivals, noting that the country reached the 1 million mark a month earlier than in 2023. During the high season, daily arrivals are anticipated to reach up to 8,000 tourists.
As of now, the Maldives has welcomed 1,797,028 tourists in 2024, representing a 9.2% increase compared to the same period last year. To achieve this year’s target of 2 million arrivals, the country needs an additional 353,673 visitors in December.
The government remains confident in sustaining this upward trajectory, with plans to diversify and strengthen the tourism sector in the years ahead. Minister Faisal reaffirmed the importance of adapting to evolving market dynamics and maintaining the Maldives’ appeal as a top global destination.
