President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced on Monday that Maldives will host a national-scale expo to enhance the country’s productivity and business portfolios. The announcement follows a proposal by Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed at Sunday’s cabinet meeting.
The President’s Office stated that the “Dhiveheenge Ufehdhuntherikamuge Maurazu” (Maldivian Productivity Expo) is scheduled for May 2025. The event aims to create a competitive environment by facilitating the participation of businesses from various sectors, including the Creative Economic District, Digital and Innovative District, Entertainment District, and Market Place District.
The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade has assigned the expo management to the Business Center Corporation (BCC).
President Muizzu and the ministers’ council have also made key decisions to ensure the expo’s sustainability as an annual event. The initiative is expected to bolster the Maldives’ economic growth by showcasing the potential of diverse industries and fostering innovation and collaboration among businesses.
The organising committee is expected to release further details about the expo, including the specific dates and participation criteria, in the coming months.
