Maldives to welcome 1.67 million tourists by end of 2019 – Thoyyib

Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation’s Managing Director Mr. Thoyyib Mohamed has stated that tourist arrivals to the Maldives will reach 1.67 million by the end of 2019.

He made the announcement at the event held to welcome the 1.5 millionth tourist to the Maldives at Velana International airport on 24th November 2019. He thanked the continuous efforts by the government and the industry stakeholders that have led to the achievement of the destination’s target for tourist arrivals 43 days ahead of time.

Thoyyib highlighted that it is the first time the Maldives is marketed not only on traditional media platforms but on modern and creative media as well. He said, “Global tourism is changing. The millennial traveler wants more than a relaxing holiday. Today the keyword is experiential tourism and we are working hard to maintain position as the most sought after destinations in the world.”

He also mentioned that the Maldives is looking to capitalize on MICE, culture and sports tourism next year.
