Male’ City Council to Hike Vehicle Parking and Vessel Mooring Fee for Businesses in the City

The Male’ City Council has decided to increase the fee charged on vessels moored in the city’s lagoons and the parking zones allotted to businesses to park their vehicles.

The decision to hike the fee on parking zones allotted to businesses was taken at the 78th sitting of the fourth session of the city council. In the meeting, it was decided to increase the fee on parking zones allotted to businesses from MVR 1,500 to MVR 3,000.

Speaking on the occasion, Male’ City Council Mayor Mohamed Muizzu stated that banks were among the companies that had been allotted parking zones, therefore he believed the change was a positive one.

As per the policy issued for the mooring of vessels from Male’ and Villimale’ lagoons approved on 1st December, it has been decided to increase the fee for such vessels from 1st January 2023 onwards. It has also been decided to increase the penalties levied for various purposes beyond the existing rates.

As a result, MVR 1 per metre for the length of the vessel is currently being charged as a mooring fee for the permanent lagoon of Male’ West Harbour. With this change, private vessels will be charged MVR 3 per metre of the length of the vessel. In the case of a company vessel, MVR 5 per metre will be charged.

The fee for green zone luxury vessels will be hiked from MVR 3 to MVR 10. The fee on vessels of companies has been hiked to MVR 20.

For the Male’ South Harbour, currently, the fee is MVR 3 per meter for the length of the vessel. With this change, MVR 8 will be levied on public vessels and MVR 10 on company vessels.

It has also been decided to increase the existing MVR 10 to MVR 20 as the permission for entry of vessels entering the jetty for various purposes.
