The largest International airline of the Maldives, Mega Maldives plans to start its operations directly to and from Mumbai this year.
Speaking to the press, Director of Strategy and Development Mr. Mifzal Ahmed stated that when operations start they would have 2 flights per week to Mumbai and is hoping to start this year although a date to start the flights is not confirmed at the time.
Furthermore, he stated that it is an honor and MEGA takes pride in the service they provide to enable Maldivians to travel directly to Mumbai and Delhi.
In addition to the flights to Mumbai, MEGA has already started sales of tickets to Delhi which is to commence on the 14th of this month. This is the only direct flight from Male, to Delhi as of now from the Maldives. When the operations begin, it would ease a lot of customers as currently the flight route is from Male’ to Bengalore to Delhi, making the flight long and tedious.
With the 25% increase in tourists from the Indian market, which is a fast growing and viable market for the development of the tourism industry, MEGA believes that the direct flights would make it more attractive for Indian travelers to visit the Maldives and hopes to develop both the aviation industry and the tourism industry as well.
