Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives, Abdulla Shahid, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates, His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, in Abu Dhabi on Friday.
During the meeting, both Ministers shared the recent updates on the situation of the Covid-19 pandemic in their respective countries, and elaborated on strategies to recover from the effects of the pandemic and build back stronger and more resilient. Minister Shahid reiterated gratitude for the generous Covid-19 related assistance given to the Maldives by UAE.
The two Ministers also reflected on the increased level of cooperation between the Maldives and UAE in recent years, and reaffirmed the commitment towards sustaining the close bond.
Minister Shahid reflected on the developmental projects underway in the Maldives and conveyed appreciation, on behalf of the Government of Maldives, for the constant support provided by the Government of UAE, towards the attainment of the Maldives’ socio-economic development goals.
Minister Shahid and Minister Al Nahyan reaffirmed their commitment to foster the strong spirit of cooperation between the Maldives and UAE, bilaterally and multilaterally, and continue to work closely together on issues of mutual interest.
The meeting was attended by the Ambassador of Maldives to the United Arab Emirates, Aminath Shabeena and the Director of West Asia Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates, Khalid Alamri.
