The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) urges citizens to be mindful of important tax deadlines as the year approaches. With the approaching school holidays and the turn of the year, many individuals traditionally travel outside the city in the final weeks of December.
Notably, December 28, 2023, is the deadline for filing Goods and Services Tax (GST) returns for November 2023 and making corresponding payments. Registered GST entities are reminded to include the plastic bag fee collected within the stipulated period in their tax statements and ensure prompt remittance to MIRA.
December 28, 2023, also marks the deadline for filing green tax returns for November 2023, along with submitting payments for airport tax and fee statements related to the same month. Additionally, December 31, 2023, is the deadline for settling tourism land rent for the first quarter of 2024.
MIRA emphasises the availability of online services, with taxpayers able to submit and pay all necessary tax returns through the MIRAConnect portal. Those without business transactions during this period can use VaaruPay for GST returns. MIRA encourages individuals needing assistance preparing and filing their tax returns to seek support without delay.
