The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) is working to further digitise its services and automate internal processes as part of its Strategic Action Plan, according to details shared by the authority’s Director General of Administration and Finance, Ahmed Shafneez, in an interview with state media.
The initiative aims to make tax-related procedures more efficient and convenient for taxpayers. MIRA is enhancing its systems to support modern technology for tax payments while also streamlining internal workflows through automation.
The authority has already introduced several digital features, including online information services and electronic tax return submissions. The current focus is on building a more advanced and user-friendly platform that goes beyond existing systems.
Since its establishment in 2010 with just 40 staff members, MIRA has grown to employ 300 people and operates 18 offices across the country, offering services to taxpayers nationwide.
