Maldives Integrated Tourism Development Corporation (MITDC) will reportedly be reclaiming a lagoon near Male’ to be developed as a picnic island for local residents.
MITDC announced that their aim is to make the picnic island available for public use by the end of this year. Mr. Mohamed Shahid, Managing Director of MITDC revealed that plans are already underway for the project, which includes developing a mid-range resort along with the picnic island, at a reclaimed lagoon very close to the capital city.
Mr. Shahid also said that the picnic island will be completed with a full range of facilities, and will be able to cater to large amounts of picnic-goers simultaneously. The lagoon to be used for this project has not been revealed as of yet.
