Maldives National University (MNU) will commence Maldives’ first MBBS course at their Medicine School with the syllabus from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).
MNU and UKM signed a contract on Tuesday, in which UKM agreed to grant permission for MNU to use its syllabus, as well as for UKM to conduct annual trainings for local lecturers.
Vice Chancellor Dr. Ali Favaz Shareef, signed the agreement on behalf of MNU, while UKM was represented by its Deputy Vice Chancellor Dr. Markazee Mohamed Mustafa.
The course was originally planned to be conducted at the newly established 25-storey Dharumvantha Hospital, however, due to a shortage of equipment, it is now set to commence at the MNU science lab.
Thirty-eight students have already been shortlisted for the course, however, a final number will be announced at a later date.
Founded in 1970, UKM holds the 186th position in the QS World University Rankings and a total of 28,000 students are currently enrolled in the university.
