MPL Reinstates Storage Fees For Containerized Cargo

Storage fees on all containerized cargo were waived off until further notice on 15th April as part of Maldives Ports Limited (MPL)’s response to COVID-19 lockdown in the Greater Male’ Region. From 10th June onwards MPL will be reinstating storage fee for uncleared containerized cargo, stated in a statement released by MPL.

MPL said that as Ramadan month has come to a close, they will be restoring Port’s service-hours and operations to normal working hours. Also, the government’s announcements to ease out of lockdown in the Greater Male’ Region will provide improved availability of services, allowing customers to clear cargo without constraints.

MPL will be reinstating storage fees payable on containerized cargo held at MCH and Hulhumale’ Terminal (HMT), effective from the 10th of June, 2020. The following qualifications apply:

  • A concession of 20% for the cumulative sum of storage fees payable on containerized cargo for the duration of the Public Health Emergency.
  • Free storage-period of 12 days will remain effective for containerized (excluding port holidays).
  • For containerized cargo unloaded during the Public Health Emergency, and has used up its 12-day-free-storage period by June 10, 2020, counting towards storage fee duration will begin from June 11th onwards.
  • For containerized cargo, that has not used up its free-storage period by June 10th, 2020, counting towards storage fee duration will begin from the date the cargo was unloaded at the port.
  • With these changes, empty container storage charges will be restored beginning from 11th June 2020.
