MSS to Purchase 48,000 Tonne Vessel

Maldives State Shipping (MSS), the national shipping subsidiary company of State Trading Organization (STO), has decided to purchase a 48,000 tonne vessel.

MSS’ first vessel purchase, the ‘MSS Galena’ made her maiden call in Maldives in November last year. The second boat purchased by the company will arrive next month.

“We are in the final stages of purchasing the vessel,” revealed Husen Amr, the Managing Director of STO. “One of the main purposes of purchasing the vessel is to import housing materials at an affordable rate, and prevent the inflation of such products in the market.”

Amru said that the prices of goods imported to the Maldives have decreased with the first boat brought to MSS and that other companies have stopped charging various fees under different names. He said that with the second boat, positive changes will be seen.

Managing Director of MSS Abdulla Saeed said that the boat is being purchased by STO, and that it will be the largest vessel to be purchased in Maldivian shipping history.

It has now also been announced that the company is seeking a crew required for the new vessel.
