The current facility developed by MIFCO at Kandu Oiy Giri has the capacity to process yellowfin tuna. However, the low depth of the current harbour makes it difficult for incoming and outgoing vessels to enter and dock there. As a result, vessels have not been able to use the harbour for yellowfin tuna processing.

Under the project, the harbour will be developed by MTCC to ensure a harbour with adequate depth and protection. Scope of works for the project include harbour dredging operations of 10,000 cubic meters, channel dredging of 10,000 cubic meters, construction of a 50-meter breakwater, a 63-meter revetment, a 125-meter quay wall, installation of 215-meter sheet pile, installation of harbour pavement, installation of harbour and navigational lights.

The project worth MVR 77.7 million was awarded to MTCC to be completed within 365 days.
