The latest statistics published by the Ministry of Finance reveal that the state collected MVR 214 million in Green Tax by the end of March, the bulk of which came from Kaafu Atoll.
According to the latest Green Fund updates, in March, the state collected MVR 92.2 million from resorts, guesthouses, and city hotels, and MVR 1.1 million from liveaboards, for a total of MVR 93.4 million. Meanwhile, MVR 31.1 million from the Green Fund was used to finance projects.
Kaafu Atoll contributed the most, totaling MVR 32 million, followed by Alifu Dhaalu Atoll at MVR 18.6 million and Baa Atoll at MVR 9.9 million.
According to the figures, the Green Fund has collected a total of MVR 921.48 million as of the end of March this year.
The Green Fund is used to finance environmental protection and sustainable development initiatives such as water and sanitation, coastline protection, and waste management. Green Tax is levied at the rate of USD 6 per tourist per night in resorts and USD 3 per tourist per night in guesthouses.
