Ministry of Tourism has said lease announcements of new islands for tourism developments will be made on 17th December 2019.
According to an official from the tourism ministry, the announcement will be made in the last event of the ministry for the year titled “Burabi”.
The event is expected to showcase the launch of “Experience Maldives”, a travel documentary to market tourism in addition to the announcement of new islands for lease. The ministry will also launch its magazine and an application which has been developed for the tourism sector.
In a press conference, the Minister of Tourism, Ali Waheed has said the ministry will prioritize leasing new islands from areas that lack tourism development. The ministry expects 9 new tourist resorts to be opened by the end of next year.
