Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has reported that there are currently no chemical warehouses in Male’ City.
In a statement publicised to clarify media allegations following the early Thursday morning fire at a Male’ City garage, HDC denied the existence of 18 chemical warehouses in Male’ City, labeling the information as untrue.
Noting that there are currently 34 chemical warehouses at Thilafushi, HDC stated that the actual fact was that 18 additional warehouses were being constructed. HDC highlighted that the warehouses now under construction are unrelated to the relocation of Male’ City-based warehouses.
In the statement, HDC also advised media outlets to desist from reporting in a manner that incites panic among the general people.
Additionally, the President’s Office confirmed that there are currently no chemical warehouses in Male’ City. The government has initiated negotiations regarding the implementation of essential measures in response to the fire that resulted in the death of 10 people.
