Over MVR1 billion is being spent on electricity subsidies, as per Minister of Environment and Energy Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan.
He said this while speaking in a workshop held in collaboration with World Bank to utilize batteries in reducing electricity generating costs.
The Minister pointed out that Maldives needs to rely more on renewable energy as a country that gets sunlight all around the year.
Dr. Hussain added that even though solar panels will be the main source, creating energy from air, wind and water is a goal for the future.
