Ahmed Zuhoor has been removed from his position as Chairman of the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) effective yesterday, according to a statement by the Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB). The board confirmed Zuhoor’s termination but did not provide specific reasons for his dismissal.
Zuhoor was appointed to the role in February 2024 and has held significant roles within state-owned enterprises (SOEs) and ministerial positions throughout his career. His previous appointments include roles such as Youth, Health, and Home Minister, as well as Minister at the President’s Office. He has also served as Commissioner General of the Maldives Customs Service and Managing Director of STELCO.
The PCB’s announcement regarding Zuhoor’s termination follows a series of high-profile dismissals and appointments. On the same day, the board announced the termination of MIFCO CEO and board member Ahmed Samah Rasheed, who was subsequently appointed State Minister of the Fisheries Ministry. Additionally, Fathimath Thaufeeq, managing director of MMPRC, was terminated from her position. Earlier, Aysha Nurain Janah resigned as Chairperson of the tourism board.
The PCB has not yet commented on the reasons behind these recent terminations and resignations.
