President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the week in which Eid al-Fitr falls will be observed as a government holiday this year.
According to Directive No. 6/2025 issued on Friday, the designated holidays will vary depending on the Islamic Ministry’s announcement regarding the date of Eid. If the Ministry declares that the 1st of Shawwal 1446 falls on Monday, 31st March, the government holidays will extend from 31st March to 3rd April. Alternatively, if Eid is announced to fall on Sunday, 30th March, the holidays will begin that day and continue until 3rd April.
In both cases, government offices are scheduled to reopen on 6th April following the conclusion of the Eid holidays.
The President’s Office stated that the decision was made to allow government employees to enjoy a longer break with their families during Eid al-Fitr.
