President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Thursday met with the members of the island council and the Women’s Development Committee (WDC) of Dharavandhoo Island in Baa Atoll. The meeting was held this afternoon at the President’s Office and focused on developmental projects and the pertinent needs of the island.
At the meeting, the council and WDC members expressed their appreciation to the President and the administration for carrying out developmental projects regardless of the size of the island and its community.
The council members also relayed to the President the community’s most pressing issues, including the need for a revetment to protect the area between the island’s harbour and the airport; addressing space constraints in the school; improving the services at the health centre; and the need for a new mosque. They also noted the need for a youth centre as well as housing for the island’s residents.
President Solih assured the council and WDC members that the government would address these concerns and consult with the relevant ministries. The President added that development projects for the island would be included in the budget for next year after discussions with key stakeholders.
