President Dr Mohamed Muizzu attended the “SCO Plus” Meeting in Tianjin, China, where leaders gathered to discuss security, economic integration, and global governance.
The session opened with remarks by President Xi Jinping of China, who stressed the need for regional and international cooperation to promote peace, stability, and prosperity. Xi also introduced the Global Governance Initiative, the latest of his proposals designed to reshape international cooperation, development, and governance.
In his address, President Muizzu presented the Maldives as a resilient and forward-looking nation. He highlighted the country’s longstanding friendship with China, its climate commitments, and the “Maldives 2.0” digitalisation agenda aimed at accelerating development. He expressed support for the Global Governance Initiative and urged greater inclusion of Small Island Developing States in global decision-making.
The President also reaffirmed the Maldives’ support for the Palestinian people, calling on the international community to unite in advocating for their rights.
The SCO Plus Meeting brought together member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, partner countries, and international organisations to deliberate on shared challenges and opportunities.
