President Muizzu Discusses Trade Cooperation With ITFC CEO

The Maldives and the International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation (ITFC) have discussed expanding cooperation in trade, infrastructure and economic development as the country seeks further external support for its development priorities.

The discussions took place during a courtesy call by ITFC Chief Executive Officer, Adeeb Yousuf Al Aama on President Dr Mohamed Muizzu at Mulee’aage.

President Muizzu and Al-Aama considered opportunities to develop trade and infrastructure while strengthening broader economic cooperation between the Maldives and ITFC.

Both sides also expressed their commitment to deepening the existing relationship and continuing cooperation in support of the Maldives’ development objectives.

ITFC is a member of the Islamic Development Bank Group and works to promote trade among member countries of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.

The Maldives’ relationship with the wider Islamic Development Bank Group dates back to assistance provided following the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. ITFC has since extended trade financing support to the country on several occasions.
