President Nominates Jameela Ali Khalid as High Commissioner to UK

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has forwarded the appointment of Jameela Ali Khalid as the Maldives’ High Commissioner to the United Kingdom to the Parliament for approval.

Under the Maldives Foreign Service Act, the President must seek parliamentary approval for the appointment of ambassadors and non-resident ambassadors.

The nomination has been forwarded to the Parliament’s Foreign Relations Committee for review. Jameela will be appointed to the post if the committee endorses the nomination and Parliament subsequently approves it in a floor vote.

The position became vacant after former High Commissioner Iruthisham Adam was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs by President Muizzu.

Jameela is a senior Maldivian diplomat who previously served as the Maldives’ Ambassador to Germany. She has also served as Vice President of the Civil Service Commission.
