President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih met on Tuesday with the Managing Director and CEO of the Ooredoo Group, Aziz Aluthman Fakhroo, and the senior management of the company. The President is currently on an official visit to the State of Qatar at the invitation of the Qatari Amir, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
At the meeting, the President stressed the strong bonds of trust and goodwill between the Maldives and Qatar and spoke about Ooredoo Maldives, one of the Maldives’ largest telecommunications companies. He noted that Ooredoo Maldives has played an essential role in strengthening technological cooperation and the overall development partnership between the Maldives and Qatar.
Speaking further, the President commended Ooredoo Maldives’ CSR initiatives around the globe, including in the areas of health, nutrition, women’s empowerment, and disaster risk reduction. He also spoke about the company’s digital literacy programme, accelerator programme aimed to provide a platform for youth innovations, and the Hulhumale’ “Smart City” initiative to help bridge the Maldives’ digital divide.
The meeting concluded with both sides expressing hope for Ooredoo to continue providing the latest telecommunications services in Maldives, and expand Ooredoo’s contributions to Maldivian society.
