President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has pledged that his administration will expedite the opening of fish processing plants in southern regions of the Maldives.
At a campaign event for the Maldivian Democratic Party in Addu City, the President stated that his administration will strive to provide better prices for the catch of local fishermen, as the fisheries sector is a significant source of income for the country.
He also pledged to endeavour to establish fish processing facilities in Gaafu Alifu Atoll, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, and Addu City forthwith, in order to enhance the fisheries industry.
Furthermore, President Solih acknowledged the recent escalation in global fuel prices and affirmed that his administration is providing subsidies to mitigate fuel prices.
