President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Saturday tested positive for the coronavirus.
According to the President’s Office, the President is in good health and in isolation at his official residence, Mulee’aage.
In a tweet, President Solih revealed that he learned he had contracted COVID-19 when that he underwent PCR testing on Friday night to prepare to tour the atolls.
Maldives is currently battling the worst wave of COVID-19 cases yet, fueled by the highly transmissible omicron variant.
The sample positivity rate in the Greater Male’ area, which stood at three percent at the end of last year, has risen to 21 percent as of yesterday.
