The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade has officially launched the Agu Magu Portal, a new platform designed to provide the public with up-to-date information on market prices of essential goods during Ramadan. The portal was inaugurated by Minister Mohamed Saeed, who highlighted its role in ensuring affordability and accessibility of household necessities.
According to the ministry, the portal will display the lowest available prices for essential food items based on data collected by inspection teams conducting weekly visits to markets and shops. The initiative aims to help consumers make informed purchasing decisions and prevent price manipulation during the fasting month.
Speaking at the launch, Minister Saeed stated that the portal aligns with international standards for essential goods and will be further enhanced to allow traders to post their own prices, subject to verification. “Our inspectors will visit different stores to check prices, ensuring that the public can easily find the most affordable options,” he said.
Currently, the platform covers prices in Malé and Hulhumalé, with plans to expand to the atolls in the future. The list of basic food items displayed on the portal has been compiled in accordance with standards set by both international and Maldivian authorities.
The ministry believes that by increasing transparency in market prices, the Agu Magu Portal will support fair competition and help ease the financial burden on households during Ramadan.
