Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has commenced reclamation works for an airport to be developed at Haa Alif Hoarafushi.
During a ceremony, MTCC’s CEO Ibrahim Ziyath said that the reclamation of 1.2 kilometers needed for the airport and runway is to be completed within 203 days.
Whilst the western lagoon near Maafinolhu will be reclaimed for the runway, the northern lagoon will be reclaimed for the terminal and other facilities for the airport. A road will also be reclaimed in order to connect the reclaimed area to Hoarafushi island.
Approximately MVR 64 million is being spent on this project which is carried out by MTCC’s ‘Mahaa Jarraafu’; 16 hectares of land will be reclaimed by the dredger.
